Hello Friends
My name is Furrukh Khan and I teach at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). I have been in Delhi for the last three months as the ASIA Fellow at Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS). This scholar-exchange programme is run by the Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF), a Bangkok based funding agency set in place by the Ford Foundation.
I am here for the duration of six months to carry out research (through oral interviews) on the survivors of the Partition. This would be the second-leg of research that I have been working on in Pakistan and have just completed a documentary based on such interviews (Stories of the Broken Self: Pakistani Women’s Narratives of Partition). It should be noted that this would be a precedent-setting endeavor as no Pakistani academic has undertaken such a project before. It would undoubtedly lead to collaborative work with Indian Scholars doing research on this defining event of the modern South Asian history.
My fieldwork would entail conducting and compilation of interviews with the survivors of Partition who were dis-located from their homes in the present-day Pakistan. One of the primary aims of this research would be to explicate the manner in which traumatic events are recalled in everyday language. Another objective is to further complicate the debate on the issue of Partition by putting more emphasis on the subjective experience of the survivor rather than his/her religious or national affiliation.
I have been granted permission to travel to a number of cities in Punjab including Gurdaspur, Amritsar as well as others such as Patiala, Chandigarh and Ambala. At the moment, I would like to establish contact with people from various walks of life who could help me in gaining access to migrants from the Western Punjab.
I can be contacted at 'caliban4everyahoo'
Thanks
Furrukh
hey all u punjabis out there, I'm desperate for some cultural help that only my fellow punjabis could provide me with. i have been going absolutely insane trying to remember a punjabi expression that comes a lot in the traditional movies, it's been on the tip of my tongue for about a month now! I'm sure at least some of out there know how incredibly frustrating that can be. Anyways, it's an expression that basically means the land of five rivers, but it's not the proper Afghani based "Punj aab" that the land's name is based on. It's a bit of a more slangy expression but I THINK it also starts with PANG something...neways, I know I sound crazy getting so worked up over this seemingly tiny thing, but my patriotism combined with my maniacal mindset just won't let me let go....HELP!!!!
helloooooooooo............
My best wishes to whole BARADARI of sikh rajputs.I am based at Delhi and my E-mail ID is rsminhas1961yahoo.

HI, THIS IS YADDY, I RECENTLY CAME TO CANADA AND I AM VERY SAD TO SEE THAT MOST OF THE PUNJABI GIRLS WHO LIVE HERE IN CANADA ARE GETTING AWAY FROM THEIR CULTURE. ALTHOUGH I MYSELF IS VERY YOUNG ENOUGH TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT OUR PRESTIGIOUS PUNJABI CULTURE BUT I FEEL VERY VERY BAD WHEN I SEE OUR PUNJABI GIRLS WEARING INAPPROPIATE CLOTHES AND DOING WHAT THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DOING. THE PARENTS SHOULD MAKE THEIR CHILDERN AWARE OF OUR RICH AND PRESTIGIOUS BACKGROUND AND CULTURE.
