By akbar on Tuesday, July 01, 2003 - 6:03 pm:

My mother brought for me a history book,
She says, it is interesting to read and is very useful,
It contains many events of thousand years ago,
Real stories about the people of the world and wars also.

I read! What interesting people are in the ages old?
I enjoy their interesting ways of living and life,
They celebrate the festivals, make loves, sing and dance,
But oh mom they now appear with spears and swords,
Oh mom, they kill and pierce, they are so brutal,
I shall not read and I don’t like this all.

Mother says, “It is so old, take it like a fiction and continue”,

This is the story of two brothers their daughters and their sons,
Happily they live, not allowing the others to overcome,
The brotherhood keeps them united against all foes,
They grow in numbers and attain millions score,
Oh mom, they are now each others enemy and swords drawn,
Oh mom, so much blood, blood they share and I can't read on.

Mother says, “It happened thousand years ago and you need not worry”.

In this chapter some good and wise nations live,
Working, trading and reaping the crops they sow,
Eating, wearing and living as they like,
How to stand for prayers is the only dispute they have,
Oh mom, dispute, quarrel, scuffle, fight and war,
Oh mom, merciless, terrifying how can I read this all.

Mother says, “History can't be without wars and be not so sensitive my child”.

Here the nations unite to protect their sacred creeds,
Both groups tempt those who have the religious pride,
With shining swords they decide, who owns the holy sight,
The hopping horses and solemn subscriptions will get them the paradise,
Oh mom, see the zealots fight to kill or be killed,
Both kill for the noble cause so who is on the God's side?

Here the pride of nations, not of religions scowls with much glare,
Big forces, big nations and for small they don’t care,
Much big armories, much big armies, in millions they count,
In millions they die, in millions they kill so they are great,
Great disasters, great explosions, oh mom too much great,
Ah mom, terrible, horrible, tell me where the God lives.

Mother says, “Be not divided and disturbed, here I tell you the simple truth.”

“My dear child, the God doesn’t want the humans to fight and quarrel,
He doesn’t prefer any religion, race, nation or any group,
He hates pride in humans which makes them each others foe,
He is merciful equally to all the humans and wants them to be so,
The devil, enemy of mankind and the God, tries to make this world dreadful,
And his followers assist him by being selfish, cruel and revengeful.”

A truly religious person refrains saying something bad to another person that he wouldn't want someone else to say to him. Thus, those who have understood the True Religion will not attack beliefs of others because they realize how much it would hurt if someone else did the same to them! God is said to be the fountainhead of Love, mercy and compassion. The Men of Light and the scriptures urge us to awaken these Divine attributes Within if we intend to realize God's Presence, "here" and "now". Eradication of greed and selfishness from Within is must for one to experience these Divine attributes; for greed and selfishness give rise to hatred, wars, conflicts, violence and disharmony.

Such stubborn fanatics suffering from the mental ailment of duality, create frightening concepts such as a separate God of Muslims, a separate God of Christian, a separate God of Sikhs, a separate God of Hindus, so on and so forth. To them a Sikh soul is different than a Christian soul or a Hindu soul or a Muslim soul, and vice versa. Thus, they sow the seeds of hatred, animosity, and dissatisfaction in the human society. As a result, the world history is soaked with wars, holocaust and innocent blood; all in the name of religion and God. In this fallen condition, ignorant fools commit sins through their Mann (mind or thought), Bachan (speech or word), and Karam (body or deeds).

No, this is not God-centered activity. Such demoniac work is indicative of being false religionist, which has nothing to do with God and Spirituality. However, the failure of the clergy of the world religions does not mean the failure of the Spiritual Masters and the scriptural texts. Rather, it shows why wickedness, corruption, fraud, hatred, differences, fanaticism, danger, tension, animosity, vengeance pain and suffering exist throughout the earth!

Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to you in sheep's covering, but inside they ravenous wolves (Bible, Matt 7:15). They publicly declare they know God, but they disown him by their works (Bible, Titus 1:16).

A spiritually ignorant person is cruel by nature; for materialistic living and cruelty go hand-in-hand. Since such person is essentially godless and ignorant, his life is dominated by his strong bondage to material consciousness, far away from spiritual discipline (Aatam Maarag). This is why a materialistic person, a materialistic society or a materialistic nation is always seen engaged in inventing something for the sense gratification. In their view, such materialistic advancement is considered to be the advancement of the human civilization, but the result is more and more violence and cruelty towards other beings; animals and human alike.

The reason people behave in such destructive manners is that they do not see One God in all beings. Under the spell of false ego or spiritual ignorance, they have no sense of Oneness. Consequently, such people always find themselves engaged in activities that brings the human society harm. Scriptures consider such people enemies of the goodness in the world, because they are always engaged in inventing or creating something that is conducive to only destruction.

What went wrong? The scriptural texts of the world religions indicate that it was not God's purpose for people to suffer or be fearful. We suffer when we no longer do God's Will (Hukam, Eternal Law, Bhaanaa, Commad or Divine-doing). It's that simple. We humans have the ability to choose. We also have the ability to discriminate between good and bad or true and false or right and wrong. Thus, we are not made like machines or robots. Also, we are not made like animals, who are guided mainly by their instinct. Therefore, while we humans have this wonderful gift of free choice, we must accept the consequences of our choice of action (Karma).

hukmu n jwxY bhuqw rovY: Hukam na jaanai bahutaa rovai: One who does not know God's Will (Hukam or Eternal Law) cries out in terrible pain and suffering (sggs 85).

World is passing away and so is its desire, but he that dose the Will of God remains forever (Bible, 1John 2:17).
Those wedded to love, peace, joy, harmony, righteousness and piety (Gurmukhs) never show their hatred even against bad and wicked forces, nor curse them. They feel that if they conduct themselves in a godly manner and do what is right, God's Grace from Within will guide them. To the contrary, material beings (Manmukhs) infected with divided consciousness (false ego) remain wedded to greed, selfishness, hatred and violence. In such corrupt mentality, people have the tendency to consider one's own adopted religion superior and thereby insist that others should join and follow it. This is the cause for most of the wars fought in the name of religion and God.

If any one slew a person--unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land--it would be as if he slew the whole people: And if any one saves a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people (Quraan 5:35).
He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love (Bible, 1John 4:8).
The best type of yogi is he who feels for others, whether in grief or pleasure, even as he feels for himself (Gita 6:32).
Yet, century after century, the clergy of many world religions have meddled in the world's political affairs and have supported the wars of their nations. They have also supported the opposing sides in wars within their own religion. For example, in the two world wars of the last century the clergy of Christendom not only supported the opposing sides within Christendom, each side prayed for victory and members of one religion from one country were killing members of that same religion from another country. Jesus was adamantly opposed to war. During the religious history of Europe and middle-east, Christian "Crusaders" and Muslims alike killed each other and countless innocent people, destroyed sacred places of worship (churches, mosques, synagogues, etc.); all in the name of religion and God!

In Bible, God promises that he will "make wars to cease to the extremity of the earth." "Nations will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore." (Psalm 46:9; Isaiah 2:4).
piV piV pMifqu bwdu vKwxY: Parr parr pandit baad vakhaanai: The priests, read and read scriptutes endlessly, only to stir up arguments and controversies (sggs 152).
In India, Buddhists suppressed the followers of Sanaatan Dharma (Hinduism) for centuries until Adi Sankra defeated all Buddhists leaders in debates. History reports that Muslim emperor Aurangzeb would not take his morning breakfast until he had either forcefully converted thousands of people of other religions ("Savaa Mann Janeyu") into Islam or killed those who resisted the conversion; all in the name of his religion and God! He beheaded Guru Teg Bahadur, and waged war against Guru Gobind Singh. Such heinous acts of Aurangzeb were fully supported by the Muslim clergy. History of every country is full of such horror stories. Thus, while the clergy and their followers have claimed to be religious, they have contradicted the teachings of their Prophets. In truth, according to the scriptural teachings, it's unholy to instigate or start war; although, as we know, some wars are inevitable.

Let there be no compulsion (or coercion) in religion (Islam). The right direction is distinctly clear from error (Quran, 2:256).
Put away the sword (Bible, Matt 26:51-52).
The children of God and the children of the devil are evident by this fact: Everyone who does not carry on righteousness does not originate God, neither does he who does not love his brother (Bible, 1 John 3:10-12).
To Allah belong the East and the West: Wherever you turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing" (Quraan 2:115).
For centuries the Christian and Muslim clergy collaborated with their respective political powers when they conquered, enslaved, plundered, looted and humiliated other peoples. They were in the forefront of the persecuting, torturing, and killing of those who disagreed with them. For instance, during the age of imperialism or colonialism, that was the case for centuries in Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world. During the Inquisition, which lasted for many centuries, fiendish practices, such as torture and murder, were authorized and carried out against decent, innocent people by the clergy and their lackey who claimed to be Christian. It is reported that they even tried to stamp out the Bible so that the common people could not read it. In Islam, Seas and Sunnis cannot see eye to eye. The same is true with all other organized world religions as well.

Clergy, religious leaders and religious regimes make people blindly believe that the whole truth is stated only in the scriptures of their own religion, and if anything is not stated in those scriptures of their own religion, then, it cannot be true. This is why their is so much hatred towards other religions and other scriptures; for people think that other religions and their scriptural texts are false, hence, must be destroyed. They name their blind religious zeal as "Jihaad", "Crusade", "Dharam Yudh" or "Holy War"; and perpetrate untold sufferings and cruelty on humanity in the name of religion and God.

Nowadays, dishonest politicians in collaboration with wily clergy play with religion and use it as a cover for personal gains. As a result, the world is tasting today more violence, more hatred, more communalism, more danger, more animosity, more conflicts and more wars. Politics without pure religion is nothing but corruption. Prophets taught their followers not to meddle in world's such corrupt political affairs nor to get involved in its wars. They also taught them to be peace-loving, to be law-abiding, to be truthful and righteous, to be kind and generous, to be restrained and peaceful, to be full of selfless love for their fellow humans free from any prejudices, even willing to sacrifice their own lives rather than take the lives of others.

No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul in behalf of his friends (Bible, John 15:13). If one makes the statement 'I love God', and yet is hating his brother (other being in the family of mankind), he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him, that the one who loves God should be loving his brothers (1 John, 4:20-21).

Indeed, the Spiritual giants taught that the selfless Love for other humans would be the mark that would identify true religious persons from pretenders — true Sikhs from false Sikhs, true Christians from false Christians, true Muslims from false Muslims, true Hindu from false Hindus, true Buddhist from false Buddhist, and so on. Only love can conquer hatred and see God Within and without. In truth, selfless love across all barriers constitutes religion.

RELIGION AND WARS

Bringing the marriage party of sin, Babar has invaded from Kaabul,
demanding our land as his wedding gift, O Lalo.
Modesty and righteousness both have vanished,
and falsehood struts around like a leader, O Lalo.
The Qazis and the Brahmins (i.e., clergy) have lost their roles,
and Satan now conducts the marriage rites, O Lalo.
The Muslim women read the Quran, and in their misery, they call upon God, O Lalo.
The Hindu women of high social status, and others of lowly status as well,
are put into the same category, O Lalo.
The wedding songs of murder are sung, O Nanak,
and blood is sprinkled instead of saffron, O Lalo (sggs 722).

"God is Love" is the experience of all Prophets and Spiritual Beings. The genuine scriptural texts containing their teachings also gush this declaration. Therefore, they tell us that the true Wisdom is the love of the Self; and the Love of the Self is to Love all. Yet, the human society is war and killing-ridden. What a paradox! Genuine religions, true scriptures, and the real teachings of the men of Light do not support hatred, wars and violence. Also, they strongly condemn immorality and greedy exploitation of others that have been carried on in the name of religion and God.

Boly Bwie imly rGurwieAw: Bholae bhaae milae raghuraaeiaa: Through innocent Love, God is met (sggs 324).
sglI joiq jwqw qU soeI imilAw Bwie suBwey: Saglee jot jaataa too soee miliaa bhaae subhaaeae: Your Light is in everyone; through it, You are known. Through Love, You are naturally met (sggs 764).
pRymu n cwiKAw myrI iqs n buJwnI: Prem na chaakhiaa maeree tis na bujhaanee: I have not tasted Divine Love, and my thirst is not quenched (sggs 356).
God is love (Bible, 1John 4:8).
bYr ibroD kwm k®oD moh]JUT ibkwr mhw loB DRoh]ieAwhU jugiq ibhwny keI jnm: Bair birodhh kaam krodhh moh. Jhooth bikaar mahaa lobh dhroh. Eiaahoo jugati bihaane kaee janam: Hate, conflict, sexual desire, anger, emotional attachment, falsehood, corruption, immense greed and deceit. So many lifetimes are wasted in these ways (sggs 267).
moih bwid AhMkwir srpr ruMinAw: Mohi baad ahankaar sarapar runniaa: Those who indulge in attachment, conflict and egotism will surely weep and cry (sggs 761).
Ego is always at war. Hence, wars are the direct manifestation of human greed and selfishness. Therefore, the fault lies with the greedy and selfish people, not with the Prophets or the true spirit of religions and their scriptures. And the greed and selfishness is the progeny of man's ignorance of his Essential Nature, and his confusion about the real purpose of life. The Men of Light come to this world to help us eradicate our ignorance and confusion, not to teach us warring and killing in hate and greed.

jnmu ibhwno AhMkwir Aru vwid: Janam bihaano ahankaar aru vaad: This human life is passing away in egotism and conflict (sggs 898).
ibiKAw kw sBu DMDu pswru: Bikhiaa kaa sabh dhandh pasaar: All of his conflicts are extensions of man's corruption (sggs 1145).
kiljug mih DVy pMc cor JgVwey: Kalijug mahi dharre panch chor jhagarraae: In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the five thieves (i.e., all evil passions) instigate alliances and conflicts (sggs 366).
hau hau krq nhI scu pweIAY: Hayu hayu karat nahee sach paaeeai: By actions done in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the True God is not obtained (sggs 226).
hau hau krqI jgu iPrI nw Dnu sMpY nwil: Hayu hayu kartee jag phiree naa dhann sanpai naal: Practicing egoism, selfishness and conceit, the soul-bride wanders around the world, but her wealth and property will not go with her (sggs 32).
Awpu invwir bIcwry soie: Aap nivaar beechaare soyi: One who eliminates selfishness contemplates God (sggs 222).
kwmu k®oDu loBu mohu inq Jgrqy JgrwieAw: Kaam krodh lobh moh nit jhagarte jhagaraayaa: Lust, anger, greed and attachment to delusion bring continual conflict and strife (sggs 984).
kwmu k®oDu loBu mohu invwry invry sgl bYrweI: Kaam krodh lobh moh nivaare nivare sagal bairaaee: When lust, anger, greed and attachment to delusion are eradicated; then I have no more enemies (sggs 1000).
In addition to teaching false doctrines and absurd and frightening concepts about God, many religions and their clergy have betrayed their Prophets, their scriptural texts and God by their actions. To put it otherwise, what the clergy and their establishments have done in the past, and have continued to do in our time, is the opposite of what the God of the scriptures requires and the opposite of what the Prophets (Buddha, Mahanveer, Jesus, Muhammed, Nanak, Kabeer, Zarathustra, etc.) taught us.

By the name of God the almighty,
Irrationality in societies is the main hindrance in the way of wisdom and in the way to the God. The God's men can never be quarrelsome and obstinate. They are passive rather than aggressive. Obstinacy, irrationality, and the pride of power had been the causes of most wars in the history of mankind. One of the concerned groups is sure to have one of these vices.
In many cases both the groups had no right reason to be on war. War is almost impossible among two or more just groups. If both the groups were/are on the right cause, why war?. For the believers, they can relinquish from their own deservings but can never encroach upon others. If they do so, then they are the so called believers.
Behold the obstinacy and irrationality in the religions cherished by the people. In the uncivilized societies (there are also uncivilized people in the civilized societies), if one says, there isn’t any God. They will mind it but will not take it seriously. But if one says there wasn’t any prophet they grow so furious that thy can do anything. They don’t consider that how there can be a prophet, if there isn’t any God. They can tolerate one abusing the God but if one gives the remarks about their cherished personalities a bit lower than their expectations, there is much anger and in some cases, there are extreme consequences. Then they claim their action as very much holy. Has the God anything to do with such holiness?
A human approach in all the matters and to all the events of the past and the present is necessary for the true believer of the God. A believer has the God gifted eye (approach) to see all matters on pure humanitarian grounds. A believer can be a Christian, Muslim, or none of them. The God is the God of humanity and not the God of groups.
I think (according to my knowledge of history) none of the parties in crusades were fighting the holy war. These were also the wars among groups. None fought for the sake of the God. I don’t find any act of holiness in the fightings between Pakistan and India, Palestine and Israel, or mujahideens and Russians in Afghanistan. My heart is grieved over the gruesome cruelties committed at the time of partition of India in 1947, on both sides of the border but none of the groups acknowledges his cruelties. I hate Adolf Hitler because he was a cruel person. He committed cruelties against mankind including Jews. I hate hajaj bin yousof, not because he sent his forces in Sind (India)
Or Spain, but because he was a cruel man against humanity. Most of the wars fought by the Muslim conquerors were not holy and were not at all for God's sake.
There is a time to take the wars of past among the groups as events of history and not as a base for erecting animosity or malice. When in power a group which has been very unjust to another group, seek justice when overcome or subdued by the other group, but most often are denied, but the believers of God don’t seek harsh revenge when they are in power. They are merciful and if they are not, they are not the believers.
The self defense is everybody’s right and war fought for this purpose is just if not holy. The war fought to protect innocent people, to stop the cruelties, to provide justice is holy. And if fought having in mind that the God likes it is most noble action one can do. The name of jihad has been so much abused that I shall not like to call this action jihad. The wickedness is wickedness and the cruelty is cruelty and being humans, we all know what these words mean. But the biased groups change the definitions, when they come to know, who committed it and against whom were committed. The God hates killing and cruelties, not making any difference, who commits and against whom are committed. He is the God of universe, the God of humanity. He doesn’t like the atrocities of one group against the other no matter which groups are these. I wish for everyone his own liberties; I wish love amongst mankind based on equality and justice.
