Kalyal is the name of a clan of people who claim a common ancestor. These folks are are resident in Jummu/ Kashmir in the districts of Mirpur, Kotli as far north as Rawalakot and Kathua in the south east . In Punjab this clan name can be found in the districts of Rawalipindi, Jhelum, Gujrat and Chakwal. The Takhur Kalyals of Nepal claim to be of the Kalyal clan but I can not say if these are related to the Kalyals of Punjab. In land revenue records of the districts mentioned above Kalyals are known as Rajputs. I have yet to meet a Kalyal who uses the title Raja instead of Chaudrey.

In my experience Kalyals are essentially farmers and are fairly humble minded people who own land in small to medium size plots and are not given to empty boasting a trait so common in most Rajput clans.

The Real Ranas are only Gujjars:

This is the fact the title initially Rana ( The king of kings) was used for Gujjar Pratihars, the overlords of lords (The fuedatory kings) but later it was used by the kings of very small kingdoms as well. Even Rana Sanga ( A Gujjar of Guhilot gotra) used this tiltle but actually he was leading only a confedracy of smaller kings and in actual he was not their overlord.

In case of Gujjar Pratihar kings like Mihir Bhoj the number of his fuedatory kings were numerous. He used to pay the salaries to his fuedatory kings and their armies and the size of his cavalery was 36 lakhs fighters.Even Akbar was a samller king in comaparison to him.

The Difference between the empire of Mughals and Gujjars is that the Mughals were having no threat at all in the name of religion whereas Gujjars faced many wars from invaders in the name of religion and within India from rashtrakuts who were providing vital information to the Muslim invaders and Jai Chand was not the first Rashtrakuts to help Ghori, the invaders.

From the days of Junaid (A.D.725) to those of Mehmud of Gazni, The Gujjars Pratihars alongwith their Gujjar fuedatories Gujjar Chauhans, Gujjar Guhilots, Gujjar Solankis, Gujjar Chandels, Gujjar Tanwars, Gujjar parmars stood as bulwark of India's defence against the aggression of the Muslims.

Earlier the historians of India, since the days of Elphinstone, have wondered at the slow progress of Muslim invaders in India, compared to their rapid advances to the other part of the world. Arguments of doubtful validity have often been put forward to explain this unique phenomenon but now with the availability of all the historical records on finger tips due to internet all the historians and scholars unanimously agree on this point that it was the Power of Gujjars Pratihar arms that effectively barred the progress of the Muslim invaders beyond the confines of Sindh. This must be regarded as the chief contribution of the Gujjars to the History of India otherwise India would have been a Muslim country by three hundred years before the end of Gujjars empire. Also this was the reason why Mughals did not like Gujjars and Rajputs of gujjar stock and new rajput powers like Kushwahs and rathores became prominent under the umbrella of Mughals. In other words if Gujjars ( The real Ranas) were not there the India would have been a Muslim country three hundred years before the end of Gujjar Pratihars rule i,e, the year 1036.

By Mirpuri Raja on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 - 10:48 am:

Salaam
Is it not true that Raja's have the most influence in Pak military and politics? Also Mirpuris contribute hugely to the Pak economy as most of them live abroad and spend their money in Pakistan. Get a NICOP(National I.D Card for Overseas Pakistani's) and it says on the letter that comes with it "We in Pakistan are proud of all Overseas Pakistani's... you are espeacially dear to us... We look forward to your active participation in the economic and social development of Pakistan)..etc and they carry on grovelling like this. Pity they dont fix the cops!

Peace to all

Raj,
In Hind especially in Rajasthan -- Rajput, Bahmins are ready to die for OBC reservation. Why to say anything to Jats.. all 3 communities in Hind (Rajput, Bahmin and Baniya) combine their hands to stop Jats...

Otherwise, historically also "When Jats lost the battles to Islamic invaders -- (they succesfully held them on Indian borders for 250 years)... India became a slave for 1000 years... Read any Islamic chronology of history. Thanks
