I came to this site after doing a search.....looking for research for my masters paper...I thought the site would have very articulate answers. I was apalled at some of the statements here. Alcoholism is a very serious and real problem in our community. The fact that we have songs illustrating the perception of how great it is to drink is a testament to the distortion of the problem. Alcohol not only destroys lives, it destroys families...We need to work as a community to find solutions not posting statements which condone such addictions.

I'm not so sure that people drink only because of stress, I think a lot of them drink because they just plain enjoy it. And sometimes shy people drink in order to 'come out of themselves', and so they are able to socialise. It all is a sad state of affairs I'm afraid. A lot of people like yourself are put of alcohol, because you have seen what it does to people and it's true it has destroyed many a home and caused a lot of misery. But in moderation, and I do mean only once in a while, it can be fun.

I think it's ok to drink on certain occasions celebrations, parties etc. The problem starts when it gets to the point where it's an every day occurance, (bringing drink home etc.).

I mean praying, going to the gudwara, everything you name it...hasn't helped one bit...but I continue to do it because I dont give up...but honestly inside of me im hurting, I dont think I can take it anymore...really how much more can I possibly take...im a person too...I mean seeing the one you love so much push you out of his life not wanting to stop drinking but also at the same time saying that you dont do a thing for him but really you do the most for him out of everyone it hurts it kills me...like he says things when hes drunk that kill me inside...hes never sober anymore...I cant remember him for anything like anything good. It hurts to not have good memories of my father it hurts to be going through this.

To celebrate the festival of Vaisakhi and birth of Khalsa along with Easter we present this play as our respect to national integrity and multicultural society based in U.K.
PTA is well known for their previous theatre works, since 1990 .Based in West London’s Southall, PTA is a non profit organization, which now presents a full-length new bi-lingual drama about changing generations and conflicts between them.
This theatre piece is a new emotional & hilarious production based on alcohol-abuse, in a family which is challenged by today’s Youth by saying that, “We are proud that you are our past, but don’t forget we are the future” written by a young talented writer Miss Sukhandeep Kaur, who expresses her view through this drama called “PUWARA BOTTLE DA”. She based this creation on research work done by PTA team on alcohol suffering clients and their families
Now this production is coming up at Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex directed and presented by on stage by Mr. T P Singh, a well-known writer & director in Asian theatre community in Britain. (He has also made one Bollywood movie called “Dard Pardessan Dey”, written and acted in this movie that was released in 2001).
He is directing the play and also acting as the protagonist (Mr. Bajhan Singh) along with Ms Simran (a well known face on ZEE Alpha screening in “Pardesan Which Punjabi”) stars opposite him, the play shows how her character changes from being a typical Indian wife to modern Western woman.
The whole family drama is rich with laughs, dance & songs, tensions, thrills, feelings and challenges for the new generation from the old generation and leaves a question for the audience. Is alcohol part of our cultural and tradition? Or is it a curse? What is the difference between Eastern/ Western women in the society? What is the way left for our children, who suffered at home in atmosphere of alcohol abuse and much more of this is shown in whole play. This play is based on real life story, which explains to us complications due to alcohol. The other well-known supporting cast is from British stage industry.

Drugs is a really a massive problem in the sikh community and the most sensative part of the problem is that its a hidden problem and most peaple are not willing to admit that it really is a problem. The fact is that we and our peaple denying the problem, which makes it more difficult to tackle such a situation, we are not even aware the real facts. First of all we all should recogonise taking drugs is a medical problem, that will give the problem a relatively less evil name ...or u can say it will be much easy to deal with it because Peaple will get treatment for it as they get treatment for other common diseases etc. It will be a great step forward if we peaple ourselfs recogonise drug addiction as a health problem instead of it being a physiological problem(or sumthing wich is evil). Atlest it will be a start towards a better understanding,which can lead on to mutual trust.

I like all people, all races, all colors, all religions. I am a American/Turkish-(Muslim), I have many friends from many cultures and religions and also many Punjabi friends too. We cannot just point fingers at a group when only one person does something bad. Theres bad people in every part of the world. Who are we to judge others by who they are. Let's look at things from two sides instead of one. There's much to learn out there. God bless you all, and peace.

Kiranjeet ji sorry u have no idea what does on in clubs, singh drink-singhs smoke-sings with beards and turbans take drugs, and drink and smoke proper weeds.
Sadly sikhs or so called sikhs walk around stating the obvious BUT are doing so much damage to the name and reputation of a sikh. This is the norm in the uk. Behind closed doors(clubs) they are very bad.
sikhs are so stupid they refuse to hold a lager or a pint with their right hand -why? cos they wear a kara and they see it as offensive BUT do they NOT know Sikhs are NOT to drink the damn thing fullstop?!!
I am a practising Sikh myself BUT there are many misconceptions about 2days so called Sikhs. We have failed miserably to uphold the true meaning of being a Sikh in the way we are live our life and trends we are following.
OUR punjabi culture is so damaging. Sikhi and punjabi culture are 2 different concepts and sadly they are intertwining and causing our downfall.
We are no longer head strong honourable people who died to live. we are now living to die...and die out..

What all of you have been saying is nonsense, Sikhs, are not weak or susceptible to alcohol or drugs or anything like that at all. Every sikh, (my family & friends and every other sikh) are all courageous human beings. I've never seen a sikh do drugs never. You guys are all making this stuff up, and come on, one of those girls up here was saying "oh i wish they're weren't drugs" well thats life, she is obviously not sikh because she can't even be brave and face reality. So before any of you others make wild statements about us, i'd like u to think before u type and reailze that Sikhs are great people.
